We’re The Geeky Waffle

Hello and welcome to our little geeky piece of the internet. We are the Geeky Waffle, formally the Geeky Girl Gab. We are an eclectic group of geeks celebrating pop culture with analysis, reviews, opinions, and personal experiences - and an inclusive community where geeks of all kind can 'waffle' about their favorite fandoms.

Candace

Candace (she/her) grew up with a Disney obsession (blame her parents) and the fact that she lived an hour away from Disney World. In 1997 she became a full fledged nerd when she saw Star Wars: A New Hope (Special Edition) in theaters. She co-wrote and directed a play called The Complete Star Wars Saga Unabridged which premiered at Tampa Fringe. In her free time she enjoys binge watching shows she has seen a dozen times already and hanging out with her dog Bucky J. Barks the Summer Solider. @CandceisaGeek

Vanessa

Vanessa (she/her) can trace her geekiness back to the age of 4 when she first watched Back to the Future and her love of time travel and DeLoreans began. She has since expanded her world to include book series, TV Series (Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Doctor Who, the list could go on forever), and movies. She has a theatre performance background, and still loves belting musicals whenever she has time between her day job, yoga, and fighting crime. Her lifelong dream is to live at Disney World and annoy tourists while drinking margaritas at Epcot, and to adopt a retired racing greyhound to accompany her everywhere.

Arezou

Arezou (she/her) is a longtime fangirl and doesn’t see that stopping anytime soon. Star Wars came into her life at age 7, before Harry Potter showed up a couple of years later and totally took over. Star Wars popped in for the occasional visit as each of the prequels were released, and after that stayed in the back of her mind as a go-to source of comfort. This changed 2015 when, like an old childhood friend you bump into when you move back home, Star Wars came back into her life in full force (haha), and cemented its place in her heart. She is a writer, and hopes one day to be able to tell stories in the GFFA in an official capacity. Nowadays she can be found sewing cosplay, blogging about Star Wars books, getting emotional about her favourite characters on Twitter, and dreaming about her next trip to Batuu. @ArezouAmin

Bucky J Barks

Bucky is a corgi chihuahua mix and our official mascot. He takes his job very seriously, he never has an issue interrupting a podcast recording to bork his opinion. Bucky was adopted by Candace from St. Francis Rescue in 2018. He enjoys long naps, cookies and his Mickey Waffle squeak toy. @buckyjbarks

Catrina

Catrina Dennis (she/her and they/them) is a screenwriter, producer, and host who has been expressing their love of Star Wars through creative means and weird ideas for their whole life. Her editorial work has been featured on the official Star Wars blog, and she served as Assistant Producer on the Looking for Leia documentary series. Along with hosting The geeky Waffle's A Fight Club Far, Far Away, Catrina co-hosts two other podcasts, Podro Pascal and Y Tu Bantha Tambien, and they also play Lobo on the Star Wars D6 show, From the Cantina. Catrina is also a comic creator (Treasure in the Core) and writer of several short stories who loves action, adventure, old martial arts movies, and a classic, sassy duel. @ohcatrina

Chelsea

Chelsea (she/her) inherited a love for all things sci-fi and fantasy from her parents. Growing up with Star Wars, Stargate, and Lord of the Rings, it’s no wonder she has retained a soft spot for many fandoms. Between watching The 10th Kingdom and reading The Expanse, you can find her dreaming up a future full of podcast episodes and book reviews. Twitter

Krista

Krista (she/her) grew up watching all things sci-fi and fantasy, so there was never any doubt that she’d become an absolute nerd. She first fell down the rabbit hole into fandom with Harry Potter, followed later by Once Upon a Time, Star Wars, and all things Disney. If there’s a dragon and/or talking animals with attitude involved, she’ll probably love it. You can currently find her talking about the Tangled TV series with Candace on the “What the Hair” podcast. @Kristageeksout

Maggie

Maggie (she/her) has been creating stories since she learned how to write; weaving worlds of her own imagination and concocting new stories in the realms of her favorite IPs. She wrote her first screenplay at the age of thirteen and she hasn't looked back. She took the long route into the professional entertainment industry; dabbling in the history field first before finding her passion in acting, journalism, and screenwriting. She is the Managing Editor of Entertainment at Your Money Geek, the co-creator and co-host of Petticoats & Poppies: History Girls at the Movies, the co-host of Outer Rim Beacon, and now the host of Starbucks Lovers: A Taylor Swift Podcast with the Geeky Waffle. @MaggieoftheTown

Ren

Ren (they/she) is a PNW transplant who enjoys watching films and reading both fan fiction published fiction. Their fandoms are vast but a few things they can't shut up about are Erotic Novels and the Twilight Saga. You can find them working at their Romance themed bookshop The Romance Era on Instagram talking about books, films, home decor and video games when they aren't talking to really cool people in the fanfic community on their pod.

Waffle Contributors

Hope

From a young age, Hope (she/her) wanted to be a Pokémon trainer and a Sailor Scout who would occasionally save princesses in Hyrule. When those didn’t pan out, she decided to pursue her true love of writing. Her life changed when Star Wars: The Clone Wars came out. Star Wars became one of her most important fandoms through college as it intermingled with her love of Wizard Wrock. She finally made a podcast in 2016 called Jaig Eyes and Jedi to focus on the Star Wars animated series. Animation has always been Hope’s favorite medium as it continues to push the boundaries of storytelling. Nowadays, you can find her rolling dice with her friends over on her podcast For Light and Dice. See all of her work here.

Hannah A.

Hannah (she/her) started watching Star Wars during lock down and quickly became ‘the star wars girl’ at her school. She is most often found hanging out at Barnes and Nobles, riding her horse Hamlet, or performing for local theatre. @hcackman

Hannah W.

It's safe to say that if Hannah (she/her) ever had the chance, she'd challenge anyone for the Darksaber simply to have a throne from which to rule from. A nerd at a young age, she always knew that real life was boring and to spice it up, you needed to have really awesome clothes, a lightsaber, and a catchphrase in which to confuse passerbys (she's still working on that one). Star Wars has always been her biggest, longtime love and in 2020, her passion was reignited with a fervor and has since become a cohost on the podcast Followers of the Force, as well as guest spotting on other really cool people's pods. But don't limit a girl in this day and age, Hannah is a sucker for good storytelling and is willing to dive into whatever sparks her interest, most notably if a villain makes a really good speech. @beskar_kyber15

Ahsoka+Shirt+Headshot.jpg

Jen

The first film Jen (she/her) remembers seeing in the theaters was Phantom Menace with her dad, followed later by her first opening day with Revenge of the Sith. But Ahsoka changed everything. Jen went from a casual nerd down to a midi-chlorian level. Since then her fandoms have stretched beyond a galaxy far far away to Disney, Sherlock, Westeros, and beyond. Jen is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer from Malawi and an award-winning screenwriter. @jennyfromtheiac

Noor-Hal

Noor-Hal (she/her) is just a fangirl who had no idea about Star Wars until 2015 when she saw The Force Awakens trailer, she thought Rey's costume would be a good idea for Halloween, without realizing it was her first step into a larger world. Before that, she's been into Harry Potter, Marvel/DC superhero movies, sitcoms (Friends, The Nanny, etc) and period and historical fiction dramas. She is a writer, a Shakespeare and Austen enthusiast reader, and loves music so much she is literally a human iPod. In her free time she enjoys singing and playing music, randomly ranting on Twitter about pop culture and such. @noorhal
