This Christmas has been very different. I was able to spend Christmas with my parents since we are lucky to work from home this year and I live within driving distance. While I knew it was going to be a quiet holiday, the one thing I was looking forward to was the release of Wonder Woman: 1984 on HBO Max.

The biggest difference between the movie theater and a home viewing for me is everyone feels the need to talk. And after the first few comments I had to start writing what my parents (mostly my father) were saying during this two and half hour movie:

  • Why is 1984 in the title? -Dad who thought Captain America Civil War was about them time traveling back to the Civil War.

  • Since when does Kristen Wiig have two i’s in her last name? -Dad

  • The 80s were all about oil and greed. -Dad And aerobics. -Mom

  • So Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright were just in one scene to get a paycheck? -Dad

  • Is that Chris Pine? -Dad (right before Steve’s last scene)

  • Oh that’s nice. -Mom (when WW flies for the first time)

  • Why does Barbra have a tail? -Dad

  • Why does wonder woman have wings? -Dad

  • What is this a three hour movie? -Mom (My Dad then stops the movie to see how much longer it is.)

  • That was his (Max) first mistake giving his son a girl’s name. -Dad His son name is Alistair. -Me What not Allison? -Dad

  • Pedro (Pascal) isn’t a good villain.  He looks too nice. -Dad That’s the whole point! -Mom

  • I give it a B rating: too noisy and not enough my favorites Robin and Connie. -Dad

  • It was too intense ALL THE TIME. I liked the beginning. -Mom
